Not sure if this is necessarily good news really but Health Canada has apparently lifted their ban on gay men giving blood.....as long as they haven't had sex in 5 years.....

It's....a step forward....into a wall...

It's progress. I remember when they switched from a lifetime ban to a 1 year ban here in the UK, it felt like a step forward.

I mean, it's better than a lifetime ban. But 5 years? That's a tad bit ridiculous...What if you've been with the same person for 5 years? They have to test the blood before it's sent off anyways. I think it should be 1-2 years tops. But I guess they have their reasons.

They shouldn't really have any ban, quite a few don't.

I always give blood anyway, and lie on the form, but I can't really decide if it is the right thing to do. Sometimes I wonder if I should tell the truth out of protest, but then they will throw away my blood. It would be a waste as I have never had an STD.
