First year for any console is usually pretty rough. Specifically in regards to software releases.
While plenty of consoles have had strong first years in terms of meeting or beating sales projections, they often did so by riding the wave of consumer enthusiasm thanks to hype, trends and good old fashioned marketing.
I do think the Wii U is going to be more like the GC in terms of market relevancy though (it will still sell more units). Always a great home for some of the best quality 1st party games in the industry, but not the go to platform developers will be flocking to in an effort to sell the most software.
