True, but I guess it's more that MS is the one that seems to be forcing all developers to do it and Sony is just giving them the option. 

Maybe, but if 3rd parties are happy that MS is doing it, then it will be no different for the PS4. Doesn't matter if it's optional or obligatory. 

This at least means that smaller publishers and indie developers won't have to do this stuff on the PS4, but the big publishers will take advantage of it.

Oh, I totally understand.  It's gonna be reality it seems.  Not fully in this upcoming gen, but probably after.
