The even started out awesome though MS is going for a whole new market...who says they interested in a console? The hardcore 360 gamers have been quite positive about PS4....if Sony gives them a good enough reason to switch they will. The majority of the ~80 million people who bought 360 are not the market MS was targeting today. MS are trying to go beyond that audience to a larger audience. But its risky and in the pursuit of all those other markets they might just lose their core. Next gen battle still needs to be fought. We need to see how the companies implement their strategies. Saying US and UK are a lock is stupid at this point. You basically basing that off of cool looking voice features, gestures and tv integration....thats not enough. |
Sensible post, and largely accurate for right now. However, things will change come E3. I got a feeling core gamers will be VERY happy with what MS shows. Also, as much as the online community hates to acknowledge it, multimedia functionalities are a big deal, and MS looks like they nailed it with this box.

I agree. To be honest MS doesnt have to do much to get all the support the PS4 gets from 3rd party developers. Same goes with PS4...thats just how things have turned out. From a gaming perspective its almost as MS have said "well we pretty much have all the gamers we need, lets try and expand the market in other ways".
Sony on the other hand is saying something like this "lets focus solely on gaming and try and be THE console gamers want". From a gaming perspective it gives them the advantage.
Also just because sony spent their conferene on games doesnt mean it doesnt have similar features to the XBox1. And likewise MS might have it down with games. The point is the focus of the companies are different and it will show in some way through the gen.
It already shows in the hardware. MS going for significantly less capable hardware. We might see Xbox games at 1080p 30FPS but PS4 at 60FPS (if MS allows it lol they probably won't). Gamers take note of these kinda things. This also gives Sony the advantage when it comes to 1st party exclusives. With almost double the performance PS4 games will easily be able to distinguish themselves and really show the advancements.
