Free online is fine, free MMO isn't.
The issue with MMO is there are always players looking for ways to exploit or bot their way to the game and it usually happens at the expense of the game balance and fun ( either prices of in game goods go through the roof or a lot of ppls think they have to use the exploit to catch up with the others and those exploits are rarely fun).
Fighting all of that requires a lot of work as well a nice customer team and regular updates. All of that cost money and it's difficult to provide all that service in a free MMO.
In the end MMO are like real, they need some kind of cops to keep people in line and cops don't work for free !!!!
PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !
