First off, the worst selling Mario Kart game EVER sold 5.5 Million units and Mario Kart games released to popular platforms sell between 8 and 10 Million units; your prediction of 2-3 Million simply demonstrated ignorance.
Regardless of whether you're willing to accept it or not, there are many warning signs for Gran Turismo 5 being that Gran Turismo 5: Prologue has sold to (roughly) 1/3 the number of people who bought Gran Turismo 4: Prologue and Gran Turismo 4 sold worse than many Mario Kart games have. There is no way to tell for sure, but it is quite plausable that Gran Turismo 5 could sell below Gran Turismo 4 levels, and could end up only selling 4 to 6 Million units (if not bundled).
Final Fantasy has seen declining sales over the years, has a much worse track record when released to unpopular systems. Metal Gear Solid is also a game which has seen declining sales over the years, and Metal Gear Solid 3 was released for the super popular PS2 and still did not break 4 Million units sold; this could imply sales of below 3 Million units for Metal Gear Solid 4.
