@Played_out:
It's not only HDi blow which is a big against MS, it's the WMA/V formats blow.
Windows Media very purpose was to gain this market, and it started a while back with ASF.
I'm actually relieved it didn't succeed.

I noticed a strawman in the thread already: the author talks about MS falsifying reports, and some people magically moved this into "falsifying financial reports" to then prove by typical logical fallacy that the author is wrong. Classic!
The reports the author is talking about, is the PR, like the reports of XB360 failure rates, the reports of 10 millions sold in first XB360 year. Ever wondered why lots of seemingly stupid people believed those 10 M was sold to consumers? BTW, the falsifying in this case, was that they stuffed the channel. Of course, they then never cleared things out about sold to consumers or retailers, but were forced to later, when it backfired, and they shipped so little consoles next.
It backfires up to this article, where the author incorrectly assume this is caused by consumer interest's waning. He is right though, that the XB360 sales dangerously declined after its first year, and only Halo 3 saved faces, allowing the XB360 to sell more than in its first year.

I'll end by saying that the article is not about MS death at all, but rather, like it reads, the death of the MS empire, which means the death of their death grip and monopoly abusing tactics, which is ongoing. This death would just means that companies now have wised up to MS true color.
Which is good news if true.
