motion controls, will they ever appeal to the "core" gamers?

What makes you think "they" haven't? I surely enjoy the Wii, and it's motion controlled games, and, despite liking Nintendo games (le gasp!), I consider myself "core." (To an extent, depending on what you define "core" as.)
