That boss was so easy. It was actually one of the easiest boss battles I've ever encountered. I remember thinking that Dark Souls wasn't going to be so bad. It wasn't even so bad once I got out of the tutorial. I had a little bit of trouble between the Asylum Demon and Tartarus Demon (mostly because I didn't know that there is essentially only one path you can take if you don't want to get slaughtered right away). But then I got to the Tartarus Demon and got annihilated instantly. So I made my way back there again (I didn't see any 30 second shortcut either which is weird cause I always explore everywhere possible in games) and decided to be much more careful and promplty got utterly destroyed again. At this point I was rather agitated but I went at it again and attempted to kill him with bombs which was decently effective but then I ran out of bombs and he proceeded to kill me again. For my fourth go at him (I was getting really annoyed because I had to go through all of those mobs every time I died) I found the ladder that leads to the tower and I remember laughing a bit to myself because I though I would get away with climbing up that and throwing all my bombs and shooting him with all my arrows without him being able to attack back. Needless to say I was entirely wrong and he jumped up right away and destroyed my life again. At that point I was raging so I took the disc out and threw it on the ground and went to watch some Netflix. A few days later I decided to give it another try. I figured I would just grind (which is something I despise BTW) and kill mobs to level up so I could have better defense and afford enough bombs to kill him. I spent the next 2 days (3 couple hour sessions) leveling my character up until I felt confident enough that I would beat him. I went back to the boss and proceeded chucking bombs at him and trying to avoid his attacks. That didn't work either because he drained my health before I could beat him and killed me again. That was pretty much the breaking point for me. I took the game out of the tray and put it back in the case and went ahead and put it on craigslist. And that pretty much sums up my experience with Dark Souls |
Ah the Taurus Demon. he is probably the biggest beginning obstacle for new souls players to get through. He can definitely be a major PIA if you are unsure of a good strategy. The method that I found dealt with him the best was to get ontop of the tower like you did, but when he approaches the tower if you fall down and press the regular attack button it will do a falling stab to him which takes out close to or about half his life. That is a huge help. Then you can sometimes climb back up the tower if not then its all about waiting for him to wind up a swing, then dodge roll away then run back in for a quick stab. rinse and repeat. The fire bombs do really well as well, but the trick is to wait for his swing and when he is still recovering you take some HP away from him.
Also I found in Dark Souls that Equipment almost always trumps level. I would rather have extremely good weapon, rings, items, armour and be at a low level then be a high level with weak equipment.
But yes the Taurus Demon for new players can be a major PIA. The falling stab is probably the best thing to start with for a low level character in my opinion. And if you are able to climb the ladder and do it again you pretty much got him beat.
