But, Will and Grace was a comedy. Of course they're gonna make fun of everything, including the gay part. Buffy wasn't a comedy, so making fun of it would be out of place. South Park and Family Guy make fun of gay gus all the time, but overall they're extremely positive, and even go as far as preaching when it comes to gay rights. Jack represents something that many gay men want to distance themselves from for whatever reason (probably because camp guys annoy straight guys the most). I thought the show was incredible (my favourite comedy and one of my favourite shows). The showalso gave me the courage to come out for the first time to a friend, so it has a special place in my heart. |
I think because Will & Grace was based entirely around the gay theme, there was room to both make fun of the stereotypes and embrace them. Overall it was definitely a very positive show for the gay community. Compare this to something like The Big Bang Theory now, where the only gay references are mean punchlines challenging the masculinity of Raj and Howard.
Speaking of favourite LGBT shows, did anyone here catch Sugar Rush? Probably my all time favourite in the genre, I would highly recommend it.
