One thing is for sure, if both Sony and M use GDDR5 on their next gen systems, it is going to drive the market price of GDDR5 down in the longer run. Might see a slight spike in the short term as all allocation goes to those two!

Eh, you do know that GDDR5 is currently used by a huge number of graphics card and that Sony and MS will not order hundreds of million of these chips?

hm.. depends

afaik the PS4 needs 16 x 521MB GDDR5 chips, so if they want to produce more than 6(.25) million PS4s they need more than 100million of the chips

hundreds! :) yes but in relation to graphic cards this would only add a little bit. the memory-price will most likely get lower if more graphic cards get sold and I think this will happen as pcs will have to have better specs to run the new games. it will most likely always be "special" memory.

Are you sure computer discrete graphics cards (that use gddr5 no less) sell that much? You might be right but would love to see data to help me process. But yeah. I agree with you. At the very least it would drive the total market up, as pc sales would increase too. Can't hurt right?
