Well the problem is WiiU is not last gen technology and every dev or publisher that keeps saying it is simply stupid. ( you dont need much brain to learn how to code or how to draw something  investing time is the key.) I agree that it is somewhat current gen tho since its currently available!

The WiiU can do stuff the Ps360 can not.  And it doesnt matter if WiiU is able to only handle 1% more polygons than the PS360 or if it can handle 200% since the fact that 1. it can output effects PS360 cant  2. is made with newer hardware 3. is MUCH more efficient and has completely different architecture than averything out there etc 4. adds new ideas (miiverse, gamepad, asymetric gameplay etc.)  is all making it part of a generation PS360 are not.

RAW power is not and never was  what defines a generation. If you want to say it this way then N64 won its generation because PS1 and Saturn were clearly in last gen compared to N64.   And PS2 was also in another generation than GC and Xbox1  (but this time the difference was not as obvious  as with PS1 and N64)  And most important and to show how stupid this POWER=GENERATION thing is -> PSP was king of its generation because (in terms of power  DS was PS1 and PSP was PS2 and everyone agrees than PS2 was nextgen compared to PS1 right? There you have it!).

What I wish developers would do, is tell the truth.   "WiiU is not as powerful as PS4 and nextbox  therefore we have no plans in releasing our technology/games on that system. Since PS4 and nextbox are similar and our engines are made for those systems its easier to make games for them than to optimize the games so they will run on WiiU which we fear will be take to much effort. When WiiU has enough of a fanbase we might change our policy because now its just to expensive to make extra WiiU versions of engines etc."  This is what I want.  Dont hide behind bullshit.

I dont want "its not powerful enough because it is OLD GEN" (bullshit). Also ONLY saying the userbase is to small without further explanation is also bullshit because PS4 and nextbox have a userbase 3.5? million smaller than WiiU  since they dont even exist!
And saying "we dont want to bring inferior versions to our WiiU fans" is also crap just look at  FF13  GTA4  RedDeadRedemption, Castlevania, Bayonetta  etc all of those games brought crippled (low res, or low FPS) versions to 1 system.  Its all just stupid excuses.

The biggest problem is that idiotic people that know how to code or how to be artistic are used for interviews even tho there should be  PR people/spokesmen in interviews.

I mean Minecraft textures look like shit because a programmer with no idea what ART is made them.  There is a reason why there is PR specific jobs and spokesmen etc  because they know much better how to talk about difficult topics than random employees, Sure some PR dudes are LOL and FAIL really hard ut most do not. And if you have a engine specific interview well then ADD a spokesman who intercepts "dangerous" topics.

All of the contradictions and then the excuses that just work as damage control  are hilarious because companies dont know what to say they have no consistent message they can offer to the fans/interviewers because they dont care.   Better say NO COMMENT than bullshit,

I think it is easier for a developer to group consoles by power rather than when they came out, so for them to call something "next-gen" they need to see a step up in power. I mean you can group by {PS3, 360} and {PS4, 720, Wii U, Ouya, Gamestick}, but you can't make a game that is targeted to cover the entire generation without a lot of compromises, so they would never bother. But group by {Ouya, Gamestick}, {PS3, 360, Wii U} and {PS4, 720} and they can target the hardware properly, which is what they are all doing.

I mean the Wii U being able to do something that PS360 can't is as relevant as the Ouya being able to, it doesn't mean they are going to group it with the PS4 and 720.
