Wait, let me get this straight.......

New York wants stop people under 21 from developing a disgusting habit which causes you to stink out of your mouth, and slowly kill yourself?

Will the injustice never cease?!

If they want to why not let them? You could argue for banning all unhealthy food for people under 21 as well. Not to mention force people to do mandatory exercise since it may be good for their health.

e'g' New York wants to stop people under 21 from becoming lazy unhealthy slobs by mandating 45 min of daily exercise reducing obesity and health problems?

Will the injustice never cease?!

I knew someone was going to respond with some nonsense like that. As if cigarettes and unhealthy food is the same thing.

Ok......

1. Food, healthy or otherwise is a necessity. We all have to eat to survive, but people like different things, and also have varying budgets in terms of the quality of food we can afford. So of course we have free choice in what we eat. Smoking is not a necessity.

2. Food, healthy or otherwise stimulates our taste buds. We eat things that we perceive to taste good. Cigarettes are disgusting. This is a fact. Nobody who picks up a cigarette for the first time perceives it as an enjoyable experience. It is a habit developed purely out of one form of pressure or another.

And as for how lazy or physically active a person chooses to be, of course we can't influence that. Are you actually trying to draw a parallel between that and banning harmful substances?

Let me make something clear, if people want to smoke, so be it. Nobody can stop you if you really want to smoke. Likewise, if you live in the US, and really want to buy a gun and shoot yourself, nobody can stop you from doing that either. That's an extreme example, but the point is that when people really have their mind set on something, they will always find a way to do so. Does that mean we should make the harmful choices particularly easy to follow through on? I hope not

poor people cant afford to eat healthy? What a laughable statement. if people are THAT poor then they qualify for food stamps.

Cigarettes are disgusting is a fact? I think you'll have a bunch of people arguing with you there. Thats more like an opinion.

I don't smoke, but this post is absurd

I didn't say poor people can't afford to eat healthy, but obviously people living on different budgets will often eat different foods, and have different quality foods. I could list countless examples to that end, but I really don't think it's necessary. You probably just misunderstood me.

Cigarettes being disgusting IS a fact. Of course, if you keep smoking them, and allow it to become am addiction they will eventually become "good" to you. However, like I said in the last post...nobody who picks up a cigarette for the first time actually enjoys the taste. They cough, they weeze, and make some sort of grimace with their face. I see it all the time here in Germany, as smoking is a serious problem here. Anybody who claims they liked the taste of a cigarette the first time they tried it is full of shit.

I have plenty of friends who smoke, and they would all testify to this.

Then your friend's should live with their decision and not try to stop people from making their own decision's

Also calling someone full of shit for stating their personal taste is rude and completely unfounded.
