To explain a bit further,
Intel is abandoning the low end pc market.
In fact they've just announced a deal with Cray Supercomputers, so they are indeed focussing on the super high end.
They are still in pcs, but are focussed on high power processors like haswell and letting amd have the "cheap gamer market where margins are smaller. They can do this because of the apu design is very cheap for consumers.
And the sword is their apu which is now in laptops and moving to tablets. It is very cheap for manufacturers over the standard processor approach...and they'll soon be in phones. Additionally they own sole rights to the x86 architecture, meaning they are safe for at least a little while.
Christensen says the mistake most small companies make is trying to compete with high end products...this is what amd was doing previously with their processors. The big company has every reason to compete there, but with low end, it feels good for intel to get out because margins are better higher up and wall street likes that.
