You struck a chord, I know exactly how you feel. Ah well. Some people choose to live in ignorance I guess.
As far as rap goes, you gotta check out the underground stuff. Check out Styles of Beyond; their first two albums are great. There really a throwback to great 90's underground rap. They've got a new album coming out this year, too.
If you hate rap, these guys might change your mind. Really, really ingenious lyrics sometimes.
