From a Business Standpoint, How long should Nintendo and Sony continue on with their Struggling Systems if they continue to do the same?

Im sure the poor Wii U sales will prompt Nintendo to develop their next console sooner rather than later. Plus i expect a cut in price around the time some of their big hitting franchises are released to stimulate interest. Even if that fails Wii U will have a 4 year life minimum.
