That's probably because Sony simply stated that they will be showcasing the "future of Playstation". They were much more subtle about the reveal of the PS4 whereas Microsoft is putting it out there that this event will be for the next Xbox.

That's true. I think that the 1% chance Sony left that it wasn't the PS4 was smart though. Although I guess Microsoft can't do that, as they can say "Xbox event" and we know it is the next Xbox, and "Microsoft event" could be pretty much anything.
