The problem with your standpoint is that you think both of the companies are "breathing life" into their systems. That's the problem, they aren't. (Or aren't doing it enough, at least.)

Nintendo can't and won't drop the Wii U. That would crush their public and business image while making many of their customers mad at them for having purchased a totally failed system. It can't happen this soon.
Sony can't and won't drop the PSV either. Even though they aren't selling anywhere near good, they still have some size of a user base that needs to have something to do with their system. Sony also needs to start doing something with this system as it's been out in the wild with nothing for it to look forward to for quite awhile. This system is in a more dire situation.

Neither companies can drop their system. It would be a horrendous idea.
