Wii U is in a way more healty position that Vita.
Nintendo isn't going to abandon the console, because it would mean losing the confidence of customers like Sega did after the Saturn. Nintendo is going to make the Wii last at least the minimum cycle of 4-5 years.
The Vita on the other hand, is pretty much dead. There is no killer app coming to save it and Sony doesn't seem to view its handeld console as vital unlike Nintendo.
The Vita will probably be Sony last dedicated handhelds console and could be discontinued early.
