Gaming - Fuse demo is up. - View Post

Finally got to play the demo.

Gameplay: I noticed something right off the bat. The controls for platforming are not what I'm used to. Rather than doing what the game told me to, I kept trying to go Ezio on those walls. It didn't work. Also, when I tried to climb up on one of the ledges, there was a small area that wouldn't let me. I had to move over a bit to be in the right spot. Good thing the game is a shooter.

The cover system works pretty well. I'm not used to playing games with cover (which is one reason why I sucked hard at the TR reboot), but I was able to get to cover pretty easily... when I remembered to use it. I think the game helps you out a bit with aiming, which is appreciated. You can still miss tons of shots, don't get me wrong, but headshots aren't impossible to come by.

The Fuse guns are a helluva lot of fun to shoot. Ammo runs out fairly quick though, so don't waste it on the grunts. (Okay, maybe once or twice). This does balance the game pretty well. I was afraid that Naya's stealth would last for a lot longer than it does. But while it's very useful, it doesn't last for too long. The only problem with the Fuse guns is that the AI is way better than I am at using them.

AI: Speaking of, the AI in the game worked very well. They carried my sorry arse through the mission, reviving me when I was shot down repeatedly (and helping out other teammembers before I even realized they were down), and they were invaluable in the boss fight thing. Teamwork was a necessity in getting past that part. I had to rely on them to draw the attention of the boss dudes so that I could run away and find a new place to shoot (as Jacob). Yes, the enemies will try to flush you out of cover. Jerks.

Presentation: I dunno if it was just me, but I found that the voices were hard to hear over all the other sounds. I didn't check for an option to adjust that, but I hope there's one in the game. Graphics look fine. I'm not in the best place to judge. I have a very, very low end 720p HDTV and pretty much anything looks good on that thing. Scores fly all over the screen (non intrusive, don't worry), which is cool for guys like me who love experience and leveling up. The skill trees looked very similar from the brief glance I gave them. I think Insomniac said that there were some differences though, so I should probably go back and actually check.

Conclusion: Overall, the demo was... fun. It was fun. I enjoyed playing it. I think it'll be even better when you play with other people, and I'm looking forward to trying that out. If you're not sure about the game, definitely try the demo.
