OK, but, you see, for me the direct boss fight is what makes this game engaging. I've got a bellyful of walking in a wasteland waiting for random encounters or shopping to upgrade from a +86 sword to a + 93 one. 

I respect your opinion, but, perhaps, after twenty-five years of RPG, I'm not so engrossed in this PATH you seem to enjoy so much, nor in weapon shops. They were OK in the nineties, but now I'm probably looking for new types of RPG...
