Sure they could switch to Intel as long as you don't mind updating all the dev tools spending millions updating the support systems (Mobo (at least the socket as Intel CPUs use very different pin configurations and voltages etc and console CPUs are soldered straight into the board), memory interface, IO systems etc) and breaking all the games currently in development (if the changes are small enough recompiling with new compilers should fix most issues from a CPU change) and making all the low level optimisations the developers have done invalid. Also as all 3 console this time round use some form of MCM or APU changing the CPU would of course mean changing the GPU as well.

Oh and paying the fee for breaking whatever contracts they have in place. And paying through the nose for short notice and have to use off the shelf parts with 0 customisation or majorly delay the console. Console hardware is planned long in advance with years of work carefully selecting and customising hardware to insure a balanced set of hardware that all works together optimally (performance and stability) within a target TDP and thermal design. And leaving final silicone and system design to the last minute with no time to properly test leads to things like the Red Ring disaster of the X360.

wow. that is a complete answer. you sir are an asset to humanity.
