They never had to. It's just that most multi-platform games (which is what a lot of EA's titles are) go on all platforms. So it doesn't make sense.
OT: And this is surprising...? EA is a company that makes many games and that only makes games. Nintendo is a company that makes games and manages over two consoles at certain times. (Currently four.)
