google is mainly a software company, its attempts at hardware were considered failures if i remember  correctly. (the Google laptop or chrome laptop). i would rather them stick with what they do best, software. it would be really interesting if they announced they are making games for both mobile and console (along with PC of course) and they are entering the gaming bussines with their minds set to become a major player. honestly i think anybody who wants to go up against the big three on the hardware front will be utterly crushed.

Their hardware is largely not failures.

The Nexus line of phones and tablets are very well received.

Chromebooks are still gaining in popularity.

They have the new glassess concept that is hugely wanted and I'm sure will launch next year with great accolades.

The only device that failed, actually never launched and that was the over-priced Q device that was produced solely in the US. Had it been produced in another country, it would have launched at a price point that people would have wanted and been just fine as it was a fantastic device.

There is no reason that they won't put out a NexusTv that would also go with their Fiber service/googleTV/gaming/and Q concept to be an amazing set-top box for $200 or less.
