It's generalisation.
The iPhone is something I would buy for my grandmother (Which I did and she loves it), I would buy Android for myself due to it's more open nature.
Fortunatly, I don't own a cordless telecommunications device because none fit my needs, I opted for a 10" Windows 8 x86 tablet instead which works wonderfully for what I want.
Also, as someone who sometimes does a bit of programming? It's trash on a touch screen, whichever way you go about it.
