They could go forward in about 100+ ways. It's a fantasy series loosely based on ancient mythology and death means little to a Kratos who's died 3+ times and came back. They could go for a new mythology (Norse, Egyptian, Chinese etc), the could continue with Greek Mythology and have Athena release and side with the Primordials to destory Kratos, they could go into the future, they could have a new protagonist and have Kratos become the villian... many many options going forward. I noticed you never played God of War: Ascension (looking through your trophy list) so you wouldn't know who/what the Primordials are, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_primordial_deities

Gears of War literally can't continue after GeoW3 so that's not a fair comparison, they exterminated the Locust... all of them. That's it, done. Epic would be better off at starting a new IP and leaving People Can Fly to continue Gears next generation, there's room for at least 1 more prequel in the series I think (pendulum wars).

Ehhh I don't know. I'm sure they could find a way to continue it so I won't rule it out.  They did have the ending to have you guessing a little bit about Kratos's status so it is plausible.  I can't see how they could continue it but someone more creative than me probably could make it work.

Also I agree about what you said and Gears.  Although I don't think the pendulum wars would work because there is no locusts.  That takes out a large amount of unique and cool weapons that makes gears popular.  Also the lancer wasn't created until after E-Day.
