I've certainly found that video games are great stress relief. Too much stress can lead to depression. So while I've never had clinical depression I think playing video games has possibly contributed to preventing stress from turning into something worse.
But I also know there have been times when I've played too much and other responsibilities and obligations have been sidelined, which is not good.
So double edged sword I think.
