I know it's not the right place to ask, but I doubt heterosexual posters can make an elaborated explanation right now, so... what happened?
And to stay on topic, same sex marriage is officially recognized in the spanish language since last year, when the RAE (Real Academia de la lengua Española) added an entry for it.
