Now, the early release of the 360 is often cited as why RROD was such a big thing, and we have no idea whether the PS4 will have launch games, so I think it is very significant that there is so little time between launch and release.

The RRoD was directly caused by being the first mainstream consumer product to conform to the EU lead-free solder legislation, which also caused reliability issues for other products such as some Nvidia cards and arguably, the PS3.

That does not change the fact that if they'd undertaken proper testing they would have known about the problem.

If you're building a bridge, you test the hell out of it. You put 5x the weight it's rated to carry on it, then take it off, then put it on again, many many times. You cycle through heating and cooling, well above the maximum daily temp and well below the min night temp, you put it in a wind tunnel and subject it to strong winds. If some of the beams you buy for the bridge cannot hold the strength they claim to, you find that out during testing, and you sue the company that sold you the beams. If you don't test, and the bridge collapses during use, it is YOU that will be in the most trouble.

To use an example you might be more familiar with. Lets say a developer is making a game to be published by EA. They use an engine provided by EA, which has a bug that can cause proplems under certain circumstances. EA rushes the company, saying that the game needs to be made by a (too early) deadline. They don't have time to test it, and thus ships with the bug.

The cause of the bug is the problem with the engine, but that does not change the fact that the problem only happened because the company was too rushed to test.
