The debt Manchetser United incurred was down to the Glazer take over. The debt has been successfully paid down every year. The Glazers will walk away from this whole deal about a billion dollars richer. I don't care for the practice, but that is the way it goes. The point being Manchester United has spent within what wealth it generates.
Other clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea have had artifical wealth injected by ownership, there is no way based on their revenues they could possibly afford those transfers and wages.
Personally I think the Bundesliga has the best model for financial responsibility in European football.
