I always felt a little let down that the window never did anything but have the Xbox logo in it. I am glad the 360's center button actually does something - and lights up!

I though it was a bit odd when Microsoft announced they were going to make a home console. I think they brought a whole new 'mature' level to gaming. Where it wasn't just a toy for kids, but something adults could play and enjoy.

To me it seems like they successfully brought certain genres that thrived on pc to consoles. While N64 proved u could make a great FPS on consoles, Xbox took it to the next level and WRPGs was another genre that had never really been on consoles til Xbox. If not for the Xbox, games like Halo, Doom 3, Butcher Bay, Jade Empire, Morrowind, KOTOR would probably be PC exclusives.

This is a good point. I was never much of a PC gamer, so the Xbox allowed me to play Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Morrowind, etc.

@OP: I wasn't a huge fan of Xbox when it first came out -- the console was bulky and the controller was a trainwreck -- but the games (and the controller redesign) won me over. Halo was an eye-opener. I had so much with N64 shooters like Turok, GoldenEye, and Perfect Dark, but Halo surpassed even those gems. It's still, in my mind, the best first-person shooter ever made and the best launch game of all time, beating out even Super Mario 64.

Xbox also introduced me to BioWare for the first time. Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire really changed the way I thought about RPGs.
