Yes, it’s a troll parrot frenzy! The amount of unbridled wrath is crazy!  A few people write some negative things, then many of their fans repeat the same rumors, over and over, and over again.  It's really the same few complains, just repeated – like a parrot.

It reminds me of a religious war - the kind of zealot craziness.  "I am right, you are WRONG and die!"  For some reason people just can’t be happy to let other people play games on a different console.  The other side has to be destroyed. 

I think much of it as so much pent up wrath that the PS3 lost so much market share over the PS2.  This is preemptive strike to attempt to keep that from happening all over again.  I think they fear the PS4’s memory latency will really be, yet another, crippling issue (much as the cell was an experiment that didn’t work very well.)  And for around the same price, the new Xbox will have similar tech + Kinect 2.0, and keep many loyal fans, and the big fear - attract new ones.

Fortunately, Microsoft is a big enough company they can handle some malevolent and unsubstantiated attacks.  Smaller companies can be ruined by such misdirection.

And really I think it’s only a few people online.  My PS3 lovin’ friends hardly know about a new console coming out from Sony later this year.  I think the General Public, even less. 

TL/DR:  Yes, because they are afraid the Xbox will continue to gain market share.

 

There probably is a vocal minority that thinks that way. But I think there are a lot more people that are genuinly worried about the direction their hobby is going in. I don't bother as much with pc gaming anymore for exactly the same reasons people are now afraid of will be coming to consoles.

Hopefully all the negativity will scare the big game companies a bit so not to push always online and blocking used games. Both Sony and MS are pretty much on the fence and are leaving the door open to 3rd parties to open pandora's box. Keeping quiet will only get us more Diablo 3 and Sim City fiascos.

I can also understand how some people feel let down by all the extras being tagged on. If you're just interested in the games then adding DVR functionality, Kinect 2.0, Ps Eye 2.0 only leaves less funds going to the gaming hardware.
