Your talking about times when the systems were already out though. When people could actually play them or look at their software line up and make descisions about them.
No one has seen the new xbox. No one knows what features it has. No one knows what exclusives it has. No one knows anything about it.

Can't deny that and fully agree with you. Although it imo doesn't make a big difference if a console gets hate after the announcement but before the release (See WiiU and GCN) or before the announcement - the specs are equally unknown.
