I used to feel the same way. but it is what it is. people still seem to like the gameplay. I personally dont, but others seem too. I do think that the next gen will be the best time for another shooter to try and take the crown. we will see.

I honestly feel that CODs success has actually done more harm to the industry then good and seeing it go the way of Guitar Hero would put such a huge smile on my face. but thats another thread and another discussion

By being the only game millions of gamers play so they don't step out and try/buy new different games. It hurts the industry when a chunk of gamers stop buying anything but the same game every year.

So its guilty of being fun and addicting? Here's a thought, developers should try and create fun original games instead of trying to copy COD. Maybe then people will buy their games instead.....
(1)Do you seriously think that if Call of Duty stopped releasing that people would buy something else? Many wouldn't buy anything at all and many would just move on to something like Battlefield. Not everyone is into video games as much as you are. Not everyone wants to buy dozens of games a year. (2)I don't see what the problem is with people buying only 1 or 2 games a year.

1- Of course not, if COD stopped being made they would throw their 360's into a fire of course.
2- We were talking about COD hurting the "industry", not hurting Activision. If COD leads to less game sales of different developers & publishers games then that hurts the "industry", plain & simple.

(b) Call of Duty sells millions of consoles a year. Call of Duty keeps stores like Gamestop operational. Call of Duty keeps the video game industry mainstream.

(a) If they stopped making it, yes, it would only hurt Activision, since Activision is the only company that profits from COD. It would help the industry as a whole since people would buy different games from different developers and publishers, spreading the wealth and supporting new creative types of games. COD doesn't just hurt other members of the industry financially, it also hurts the industry from a creative perspective. You said yourself COD is "addictive", when someone is addicted to something they overuse it in an unresonable fasion at the expense of doing/trying other things.
(2) Does it really sell millions of consoles a year, or is that just something you said to fill space? Used games are what keeps Gamestop operational, COD gives a one time boost to all retailers (not just Gamestop) once a year. If these addicts didn't seek a once a year fix they could try more different experiences throughout the year.

Doubtfully. If you dont make good games people wont buy them regardless. These other companies will not get a boost at all. The only games that would get a boost would maybe be Halo and Battlefield. It is the multiplayer side of the industry and people arent going to stop playing an addictive multiplayer game for singleplayer games regardless of what you say. If CoD was no longer made then the industry would shrink and you would see a few boosts like I mentioned before.
And yes it has sold millions of consoles considering that many people buy the X360/PS3 just to play CoD with their friends. If you call a game like Uncharted a system seller that has sold around 16m respectively then you must call CoD a system seller thathas sold around 150m copies since CoD4
