Online passes block out an entire section of the game. If the developers wanted to, they could lock out everything. This wouldn't exactly block used games, but it would make used games unplayable unless you activate your game. It doesn't have to be always online, a simple 1-time activations is all that would be needed. |
I don't think it works like that. Not entirely sure how online passes work. You would have to talk to someone who knows a little more about that than I do, but I don't think they can lock you out of the entire game because they are offline. As far as I'm aware online passes has all had some kind of link to online play whether it be coop or competitive multiplayer. Even those places that you can't get to, you have to be online to get to. I could be wrong about that but I do believe it has always had something to do with online.
