No, I think Apple and Google will just bet on their tablets taking over the home console space eventually (with miracast/wireless-HDMI and bluetooth gamepads they could serve as home console replacements right now and that will only become easier/better in the future ) and collecting a nice ~3rd of the revenue from games sold in their shops is a much more stable business than developing risky high budget titles themselves. |
They don't need first party software (though Google does have that new Ingress game). They have the exclusive other mobile games plus other content already in their ecosystem.
Plus it won't be a $500 game console, but a $100 or $200 tv top box.
