It has already outshipped the X360 if I remember correctly. It just hasn't sold through as many from the retailer side of things.

are we sure?  what was the shippment differential?  MS shipped 1.3M this quarter so how many does sony have to ship to pull ahead?  i was thinking sony was behind by just under a million and i don't see sony shipping 2.3M this quarter.

I'm not sure to be honest but i thought Sony was at 77m shipped and MSFT was at 76m shipped.  I really am not sure.

I believe MS was at 76 as of oct 1, and then as of nov 1, sony was at 77m. It was very close iirc.

Correction: MS was at 70m as of oct 1, and sony said 70m as of nov 4, then a couple months later, a tracking leader said ps3 was at 77m compared to 76m but these were unofficial numbers.

Also:

360 totals for this quarter are at 77.2m and said they shipped 1.3m this quarter, and on January 9, IDC said 360 shipments were 76m. That would mean that IDC had the correct numbers available as far as 76m on Jan 9.
This could imply that Sony had in fact sold 77m, however, Jack Tretton on Feb 21, said that ps3 had sold around 77m. So it could either mean that they JUST got to 77m, or he was simply referring to the IDC report from a month earlier, or really anything.

Point is, like Tretton said, at this point it's splitting hairs.
