Most of Nintendo's consumers know nothing about the Nintendo Direct showings. Most of Nintendo's consumers will only hear news regularly through whatever news channel they watch or read online. How is Nintendo going to reach their consumers without a bigger conference to make the news?

Nintendo will still be at E3, as far as I understand it, and they are just not doing the traditional money wasting thing...like having Usher perform  o_O

So they will still get the media coverage. I assume this means they spend far less money on settign up stage, hiring people, etc, and can focus more on their own structured event for the media.

I think it's a good move. Let MS and Sony battle it out for the glitz and the glamour, Nintendo will worry about the games.

Why does everyone assume this? Of course not that many people actually watch the stream itself, but after a Nintendo Direct you can visit any gaming related website and you will see the ND completely covered. I visit quite a lot of gaming websites and every.single.one.of.them. had at least a link to the youtube video of the stream and a summary of the announcements.

Agreed. I just Google Nintendo Direct, and often watch it on whatever site pops up on top, which normally isn’t Nintendo’s. However, I also very often watch it on Nintendo’s site out of some innate sense of loyalty. I like to think Nintendo recognises me among the thousands of other loyal viewers – which I’m sure they do.
