I would not compare this game to Dark Souls, to me it was a different experience and one that I enjoyed more. Dark Souls & Demon Souls are a wonderful experience, it's just that Dragon's Dogma game had elements of D&D and Berserk that I adored. That with an open ending I have come to appreciate over one that basically states, "and they lived happily ever after." Saying any more spoils the experience, in fact, I didn't read any reviews before playing it, and that is probably why it impacted me so much. This game cemented to me the idea that reviews are opinions, everyone has one, and they will most likely differentiate from your own. Here are few things you might consider before buying this game.
If you don't like reading, or listening to what NPCs have to say to you, this game may not be for you. (I've watched people on Youtube play this game, many just like to get to the action. If that's you, don't buy it)
If you are offended by different religious believes, this game may not be for you.
If you do not get attached to NPC partners/characters, their progression or story, this game may not be for you.
If you don't like exploring, heavy looting and retraycing your steps everyonce in a while, this game is not for you.
If you have low patience, can't stand low FPS, and wish your games to be 100% polish upon release, this game may not be for you. (I say this because the original would have loading issues. You might get to a shop, but you can't see the store owner load up until 5 seconds go by.)
This game is full of flaws, but it has things that I adored so much that I sat in awe about how much detail the developers put into it. The atmophere in this game made me feel the action--the experience. Again this is all subjective, another player may not feel the same things I did, or appreciate them as much.
My advice to you is to rent it and see if it's your cup of tea.
