Parents need to use the parental controls to lock their kids out of mature games or even online altogether.
I think we are seeing the end of the clueless parents though. My generation grew up with video games so we don't see them as toys. The last generation thinks video games are toys and toys are for kids so they don't even think to check if they are appropriate until they happen to walk in the room and see their 8 year old shooting people in the face in COD.
But I also fear that the latest generation of parents will also be too liberal and let their kids do what ever they want. Kids need supervision and they need to be told no. I grew up with video games, movies, tv, music, but my parents were there to make sure it was all age appropriate. I feel lucky that my parents cared when I see videos like this and watch kids who have no boundaries.
I agree that Nintendo has all a little kid needs for games, but it's not Xbox Live that did this to these kids. Xbox Live has just exposed what negligent parents have done to their kids. The true is that if MS required proof of age for these games the same bad parents would log in for their kids just to get them off their backs. |
The problem is most parents hear about the ESRB ratings and still buy the games. They pause then (mostly mothers) look at their kids and see the hunger for the game in their eyes and just give in. I've been at plenty of Gamestops and seen it happen. If kid influenced sales were struck from COD, God of War, Halo, Gears, GTA or Assassins Creed they would sell literally half of what they sell. Little kids are going unchecked. My parents wouldn't have it and asked me how a violent game got into my house as a child. I am raising my kids on Nintendo and then when they grow up a little more they can make the choice. Those kids have absolutely no control despit how funny some of their comments were.

meh. I played GTA and GoW a lot as a little kid and I'm one of the most non-violent and relaxed people you could ever meet if I do say so myself. Ironically Madden makes me more infuriated than anything else because I'm such a football fanatic and I hate when something happens that would never happen in real games or the physics have some stupid glitch or they can't make the game more difficult other than having your QB thrown wild passes and the o-line let people through in a second...see what that game does to me? That's my anger vent so I don't have anything left for anyone or anything else.

No I have fun with most competitive games. Like I said I'm just very knowledgable about football so when a left tackle that I know shouldn't get bowled over even once gets bowled over 5 times in a single game I get mad. Also my point about difficulty is the main thing. They've had a quarter century to refine this formula they should be able to make the game challenging without just making all your guys incompetent. Have the computer AI get better or have them call plays smarter. It's the laziness of the dev that really pisses me off which is why I haven't actually bought one since 09. I'm still nowhere near these kids though I just put the controller down and walk away fuming.
