1. It went from a faraway 3rd place, to a close 3rd place. And possibly a close 2nd place. Marketshare terms: went from 22% to 30%. Could go to 33% assuming generous sales of 360.
2.I am of course including Wii as Wii was its main competitor for the generation. Wii was the first console to dethrone a PS home console from 1st place. Excluding Wii is like excluding PS2 and comparing gamecube and Xbox.

It was only a far away 3rd because it launched later than X360, but already from the get go it was closing that gap, and continued to do so - that's not making a come back. A comeback is: a return to being popular or fashionable - and since PS3 never WENT OUT of fashion, and never became UNpopular it can't make a comeback. There wasn't anything to make a comeback from.

Clearly when Wii was the best selling console the PS3 was not popular or fashionable. However after Wii stopped selling so well, the PS3 went back to being popular and fashionable as its best year selling was 2011. And it has stayed in 1st WW paving its way back to being popular.
I think we have had a good discussion so far, but I am going to have to leave. I think we could have this conversation for a very long time but neither of us may be convinced. If by my leaving that you consider it me conceding defeat then so be it.

If we even need to debate if it made a comeback or not - Then it obviously didn't!
A "comeback" should not be open to question or need answering...by it's nature, where on earth has there ever been a comeback that needed explaining or could be questioned, a "comeback" is visual, it's obvious.

So stand up for yourself and unload :p your evidence in the OP is more compelling than any crap after it!
