Is that right? So are APUs just getting a second wind because they seem more relevant now. |
Not really know... integrated graphics have been HUGE for years as far as PC's go... they repalced most low level and even mid level retail PCs that used to have GPU's a while ago.
They probably just seem like they are getting a second wind to you because they're being put into the next gen consoles... combined with AMD's huge PR Blitz.
Think of APU's sort of like Sega's "Blast Processing".
GPU's are being used to do more and more... but it really doesn't have anything to do with APUs... and more just figuring out what GPU's can do competantly.
It's sort of like if you previously had a carpentry buisness where your CPU Craftsman buils a desk, and the GPU workers shipped it out.
There are a ton of GPU works, who can get a lot of stuff done, but aren't very bright.
Currently people are trying to figure out how to get those wokers working in "Carpentry factories" so the the CPU craftsman can just be used to go around measure stuff, direct the workers and do the trickier stuff.
