Point is it went from selling disastrous numbers compared to Wii and PS2, to now decent enough numbers to propel it to only 25m behind Wii now and the gap will soon be smaller. The gap was at one point of course 0ish units and went really quickly to at least a 34m gap and now it is closing due to the PS3 still being supported well. Nintendo abandoing Wii is irrelevant. 360 as a whole is irrelevant, as it lost its lead and as you said always had signs that it would lose to PS3.
