I'm a microsoft fan (most Sony fans here can't stand me whih says it all lol). Fable series is basically what I'd call nice and cute. It lacks the deep WRPG mechanics, and lacks the JRPG style and story, it lacks the adventure games meat. It's good for what it is. A cute fun adventure, but this is coming from a british guy here, it plays far too much on medieval cuteyness that doesn't have much behind it for me. It's good but not a classic. edit - to elaborate on the britishy thing, it exploits cheesy stereotypes that aren't relevant and never were - all well and good but if it's going to do that, I expect better. Kinda like a racist joke that is borderline acceptable if it has a fantastic punchline and is delevered in a good context. Fable could have been a great series, instead it was just a series. The Journey says it all really...shameful. It's certainly didn't meet expectations in hindsight, reviewers were very kind to it and if reviewed now it wouldn't score as high imo. |
I've never found british humour that good. No offense there. What I'm just saying is that while it could have been an outstanding series (We agree here) it's just merely good. But the game found its fans, so I would say he definitively did something worth mentioning. I can understand the hate he got for 3 and Journey though. I love 3, but even I can see how mediocre that game is. I've found 2 to be pretty enjoyable and cute, but while I do think it lacks every single RPG component from both west and east, I do think it nails it at being adventure game.
