When Samsung ditch android... Is android even a commercially viable vehicle for anyone othe than google themselves?

You seem to be confused. If Samsung ditches Android ( they won't, but let's say they will just to keep you happy) there will be more room to grow for other manufacturers. It will be good for them if anything.

It seems like a commercially viable vehicle to me. Especially after hearing the news about the latest Sony product, which according to YOU, is an irrevelant company in the grand scheme of things, sells 4.6 million handsets in 40 days, which is approximately same as the entire quarter smartphone sales of a company you post ads for pretty much every day.

Of course, if there was a company paying Sony 250 million dollars every quarter(which I guess is the definition of a commercially viable platform) things would be looking much better.
