FY2006: -$1.95 billion FY2007: -$1.21 billion FY2008: -$0.59 billion FY2009: -$0.89 billion * Vaio loss merged FY2010: +$0.33 billion * Vaio loss merged FY2011: -$0.24 billion * Vaio loss merged FY2012: +$0.51 billion TOTAL: $4.04 billion loss * FY2006 = April 2006 to March 2007 * The biggest point is how much Vaio related did lost to NPS division in FY2009, FY2010 and FY2011? Sony lost a lot of money in the Game Division? They did like Microsoft but how much of these loss in FY2009, FY2010 and FY2011 can be attributed to Vaio? I think withou Bravia/Vaio the Game Division had profit in FY2009, FY2010 and FY2011. That give us $3.24 billion loss without add the FY2009/FY2010/FY2011 profits. I think the Sony loss with the Game Division until the last quarter is close to $2 billion and Sony is on track to cover that loss with PS3 profit in the next years. |
I agree, the majority of Sony losses for the PS3 were concentrated in the first 2-2.5 years, with each year showing marketed improvement over the last. If GAME was left as a stand alone unit I also believe that the game division would have profitted in FY 10 and 11 and might have had a small loss for FY 09. Its also important to remember that the original playstation and PS2 had first year fiscal year losses of ~500 million, and those became commercial successes.
