I don't think jail is the answer, most of the worlds jail systems are over crowded and it's the taxpayer (Aka, the people.) who pay to feed them, clothe them, provide them with electricity, water and other necessities.
It's not like he actually hurt anyone, why should the people continue to pay for his crime? Leave the jail system up for serious crimes against humanity, not for illegal downloading or hacking a gaming network.

I think the punishment should fit the crime, say... 10 years without computer/internet access sounds good? Plus a hefty fine on top of it wouldn't go astray either.
Sony could also take a page out of Microsoft, Apple and Google's book and hire him to bolster their own security, hell it's worked for those firms!

i really didnt think of that much, but now that you mentioned it i agree. 

10 years without computer/interent sounds like a really harsh sentence, one that would really teach him a lesson. but it would never work out, they can never moderate him.
