MGS4 is about 30GB and that's with a shed load of additional languages, english only would be about 18GB.

MGS1 is about 1GB if removing duplicate entries across both discs (as you logically would)

MGS2 is about 5GB

MGS3 is about 5GB

Easy fit on a 45GB Bluray disc, even taking into account I may out a few GB.

 

In fact, since they will have the original video files for MGS2/3 non compressed, they could compress them in a MPEG-4/AVC as videos on a Bluray/MGS4 are and likely take that down to about 3GB with same image quality for video for MGS2/3.

Same goes for MGS1, that could be taken down to a single CD - 700MB easy.

Even MGS4 could be tweaked to use lossless compression for the audio and shave off 5-6GB, with no reduction in audio quality at all.

You could almost fit the whole lot on a single layer Bluray.

mgs4 is 45gb it's the reason you can't download it of the store.

im not 100% on the others but your quite far off.  "Easy fit on a fit on a 45gb bluray disc" hahahah this is the funniest bit of all, the standard blu ray disc is 50gb this is very common knowledge.

Then you carry on to pretend you know a thing about compression.

Actually my good man, I am correct. And there's no need to be so damn insulting about it too!

MGS4 does not take up 45GB, I know because I have a hacked PS3 and have ripped the whole game to disk before. It's about 30GB, might be slightly less. I have also analysed the files and added up how much space is taken for the languages and movies and so forth.

Also, a Bluray disc is about 45GB (retail) a writable Bluray double layer is 44.1GB.

50GB is amount of space available without a file system, obviously anything stored on any media needs a file system, plus the 50GB quoted capacity is using decimal measurements. You know, like how a 2TB hard drive only has 1.81GB available for storage.

Oh, and I know plenty about compression thank you very much. I have a FreeNAS setup with ripped blurays on with the audio losslessly compressed as FLAC. Take a DTSMA/TrueHD audio 24-bit 5.1 audio track, that takes up about 3GB for 2 hours of audio, if you decompress that to standard PCM as is used in the MGS4 audio, the space taken is approximately 1100kbps per channel x 6 = 6mbps as opposed to about 3-3.5mbps for the lossless compressed DTSMA/TrueHD.

A saving of approximately 40-50%.

Now, if you encoded that audio losslessly as FLAC it would be even less due to no need for the legacy 1.5mbit/s core track used to maintain compatibility with players that can't decode lossless DTSMA/TrueHD.

You really shouldn't read too much into quotes from Hideo Kojima saying that a full 50GB bluray was needed for MGS4 - It wasn't and isn't.

Just checked the actual amount of space taken on my PS3, it's 27GB....even less than I said before.

I believe different versions have different languaes available, the Eurpean version is about 32GB, this as I said in the first post that you rudely and incorreclty laughed at ;) shows that I'm 100% correct and that the language files make a massive difference to the overall space, and that 18GB without additional languages is roughly correct.

If you really want me to, I can give you the exact figure taken up for each language, movies and game data? Of course that will take me some time as I can't be bothered, but if you would like me to I would only be too happy to oblige.
