As soon as I saw the thread title I though, "Tequila and/or mixing liquor fucked them up." I was right.
To your question: How long have you been in their lives? That and you only being 8 years older than him goes a long way in how much respect you'll get from him imo. Does he have aunts, uncles, grandparents that could help you guys out? Don't answer the next one if you feel it's too much info, but why is he in therapy? Is it a serious problem, or do you think it's because he's a privileged fuck up and his mom thought it would help somehow?
