Have they? With 3DS and then Wii U, Nintendo has based their whole marketing on 3D and then HD experiences as being essential. With Wii U they made it a big goal to get all the AAA third party franchises, implicitly buying in to their idea of what gaming is. |
Nintendo has developed an, arguably, "underpowered" consoles in the 3DS and WiiU. Nintendo certainly has not sold out to AAA 3rd parties and graphic engine developers. If that was the case they, like Sony and MS, would have been preaching about what graphic engines that can be played on the WiiU. They would have also already greased Epic and Crytek's pockets, but that's not the case.
When its all said and done, Nintendo will be one of the few game makers left and are profitable.
